Short description: A classical trek into the Stok range starting from Spituk monastery. There are several villages on the way and one crosses only one pass, the Stok La. The longer option of 4/5 days includes the ascent to a fantastic panoramic viewpoint above the Ganda La pass, at 5000m.

Short description: Still the most popular classical trekking route, because of its accessibility and beauty. Markha Valley is situated in the Hemis National Park and there are usually lots of Blue Sheep to see. Starting from Spituk, one enters Markha Valley after crossing the Ganda La and leaves the valley again via the Gongmaru La, finishing at Hemis that has a famous monastery.

Short description: This classic trek is also called the "Baby Trek" because of the easy and mild hiking conditions. Starting from Likir, one passes through several villages among the richest in Ladakh and worth visiting are the monasteries of Likir, Ridzong and Tingmosgam on the way. The trek ends at Khaltse. This is the only trek that can be done throughout the year, as the passes are not very high and don't get snow-blocked during winter.

Short description: An interesting tour on which one can visit three of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh, connected to the 11th century Buddhist saint Rinchen Zangpo. They are situated in Wanla, Mangyu and Alchi. The trek starts from the old Lamayuru monastery, crosses a few passes and ends at Alchi.

Short description: A little traveled route crossing one of the most scenic and colourful passes in Ladakh, the Dungdungchen La. One start from Lamayuru, crossing several passes to Chiling, along the Zangskar River. Chiling has a community of silver- and goldsmiths, worth visiting.

Short description: This trek combines the unique scenery of a high-altitude plateau and two turquoise-colored lakes in a short trek. Departing from the village of Rumtse, the trail leads over a few passes to the lake of Tsho Kar, and crosses several pass again, finishing at the settlement of Korzok at Tsho Moriri Lake.

Short description: A beautiful trekking that departs from the high-altitude Tsomoriri Lake, taking one over the high Parang La pass into the Spiti Valley, finishing at Kibber village. Spiti resembles Ladakh & Zangskar in its Tibetan-style Buddhist culture and has many interesting monasteries to visit.

Short description: This partly isolated fantastic trek guarantees lots of seasonal shepherds and nomads with their flock on the way. Leaving from Hemis one crosses a few passes into the nomad area of Kharnak, finishing at Zara, on the Leh to Manali road.

Short description: Starting from Phyang monastery, one crosses the glacier of the Lasermo La pass into the wide Nubra Valley, with its lush greenery, Bactrian Camels and great views of the Karakoram peaks. Then along the Nubra and Shyok rivers and from Digar village via the high Digar La pass to Sabu back in the Indus Valley.

Short description: A classical trek often combined with the Padum to Tartse Sumdo (Darcha) itinerary. Starting from Lamayuru, the trail leads through many villages and over many passes into the beautiful wide valley of lower Zangskar (Sham), ending at Padum, the capital of the former kingdom of Zangskar.

Short description: Leaving from Padum, this classical trek leads through the splendid Lungnak Gorge with Bardan, Mune and Phukthal monasteries. Just one pass to cross over to Tartse Sumdo (Darcha) in Himachal Pradesh, on the Leh to Manali road.

Short description: An unusual route, but of extreme beauty, with lots of small forests on the way and advised to do in the late season only, when the river levels are lower. Leaving from Lamayuru, the trail crosses just two passes to Nyerags village and then proceeds over two other passes into the Zangskar Valley, finishing at Padum.

Short description: A unique isolated and wild route, starting from Hemis monastery and crossing over several passes into the Zangskar Valley. It covers part of the Markha Valley and is only possible late in the summer season, when the water level of the Kharnak River from the Chang Thang plateau is lower and more easily crossed. Finish at Padum, capital of Zangskar.

Short description: An adventurous round-trip in the heart of Zangskar, with lots of rivers to cross. Many monasteries and villages too, visit the monasteries of Stongde, Thantak, Phukthal, Mune and Bardan on the way. Starting from Padum, one crosses the Stongde La pass, then via the isolated village of Shade to Phukthal and back through the Lungnak gorge to Padum.

Winter Trek Chadar (frozen Zangskar River)
Best time: January /February Duration: 12 or 16 days (Up / Down)
Short Description: The speciality this expedition-like trek takes one on the frozen Zangskar River through a breathtaking gorge all the way up to Zangskar. Over the river is the only way in (and out), for all the passes are usually snow-blocked for about 7 months a year. Two possibilities:
A trek of 10 days, starting from Chiling, up the Zangskar River to the village of Lingshed, where one takes a break and can visit the historical monastery and nunnery. Same way back to Chiling again, visiting on the way Nyerags village. A trek of 16 days, Starting from Chiling, up the Zangskar River all the way to Padum in the Zangskar Valley, where one takes a break and can visit several places of interest in the area. Same way back to Chiling then, with a short visit to Lingshed on the way.

Short description: A special trek starting from the old monastery of Shergol crossing two passes into the lush low-altitude Suru Valley, with its distinct Ladakhi Muslim culture. On the way meditation caves and a huge rock carved Maitreya Buddha (Buddha of the future), finishing at Sanku.

Short description: Beautiful and partly isolated route to the village of Wanla over several passes and through several villages, starting from Henasku, on the Leh to Kargil road. Don't forget to visit the beautiful monastery of Wanla!
